Amazing Photography

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

I love the internet for introducing me to photography that in no other circumstance would i come across. God bless Flickr too!

Rolling Shutter Propeller

The image above was shot by Jason Mullins with his iPhone 4 on a flight from London to Guernsey. The weird black lines you can see are actually distorted, disconnected copies of the propeller blades, but this isn’t a Photoshop trick; this was how the image came out of the phone. This is called rolling shutter capture. You can see more like this in the rolling shutter Flickr group.

Bay Bridge at Night

The San Francisco Bay Bridge (as seen from Treasure Island) on a Saturday morning at 4:55am. By Troy Holden.

Dali on “What’s My Line?”

Friday, August 20th, 2010

I just stumbled upon this gem, thanks to Steven Fry’s Twitter feed.

This ten minute clip is drawn from the famous 1950s game show, and it’s quite surreal. I don’t use the word surreal loosely: the special guest is Salvador Dali.

Not a massive change but I feel I’ve filled in the gaps a little :)

Note: The background image normally stays static but for screenshot purposes I had to wrap it.

Artist Of The Week – Andrew Rae

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Andrew Rae is an incredible English illustrator who loves small drawings of monsters and strange characters. I just discover a small comic that was published a couple of months ago on his blog, entitled "Back to Earth". This is the story of an astronaut and his life after his "glorious" return home. You can see the whole comic after the break.

Movie Infographics

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

I’ve never seen anything like this before but I like it!

Mega Shark Infographic

Infographics surround us in the media, in published works both pedestrian and scientific, in road signs and manuals. They illustrate information that would be unwieldy in text form, and act as a visual shorthand for everyday concepts such as stop and go. What I like with movie infographics are that they map out and give the plot or story of a movie in a really enjoyable way. I could look at them for hours.

Bunny Sugar Lumps

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Sugar Bunny

I’m reposting this from Girly Bubble on behalf of Sarah :)

Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Poor bunny! These little bunny shaped sugar lumps are so precious they should be in a stop-motion animated feature about the dreary malaise of living in the modern world. In the end of course they would meet their inevitable fate, being dunked in coffee for the edification of sadistic cuteitarians. But isn’t it worth it? Aren’t we worth it, slogging through this life, searching high and low for cute? We deserve to have cuteness be a part of our everyday routine, and if that means sacrificing a few sugar bunnies along the way, so be it.

I stress the above was NOT written by me! :)

Designer Of The Week: Jony Ive

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

With all the scrutiny Apple have received over the last three weeks, I thought it apt to highlight one of the many reasons that consumers will continue to use Apple products once the dark clouds of  ‘Antennagate’ clear.

Jonathan Ive & Steve Jobs

Jonathan "Jony" Paul Ive, CBE (born February 1967) is an English designer and the Senior Vice President of Industrial Design at Apple Inc. He is internationally renowned as the principal designer of the iMac, aluminum and titanium PowerBook G4, MacBook, unibody MacBook Pro, iPod, iPhone, and iPad.

In short: One cool dude.

5th Generation iPod

I’d like to add that Apple have always been at the forefront of technology and design, and that one small antenna issue should not be allowed to harm a company which has pioneered not only home computing, personal media access, and cellular phone possibilities; but also CGI animation (namely ensuring the survival and success of Pixar).

People are fickle, the media love a witch hunt, and humans are naturally attracted to highlighting the failures of others. But they all get over it!

Crap Photos? Sepia!

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

Its too hot. I can’t sleep, so what better way to spend my evening than to Monkey around with a few old photos and post them on here?

Exactly.

I read somewhere that if you ever have a crap photo, the best way to give it some life is a bit of Helvetica and some Sepia toning. Apparently it diverts the eye and adds an ‘Olde Worlde’ feel…

Et Voila!

Blackpool

More practice needed, me thinks!
