‘In Bruges’

In Bruges

This is a top film! A bit blood and gutsy in places, but a fantastic storyline. There is also great acting from Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennnes.

Bruges, the most well-preserved medieval city in the whole of Belgium, is a welcoming destination for travellers from all over the world. But for hit men Ray (Farrell) and Ken (Gleeson), it could be their final destination; a difficult job has resulted in the pair being ordered right before Christmas by their London boss Harry (Fiennes) to go and cool their heels in the storybook Flemish city for a couple of weeks. Very much out of place amidst the gothic architecture, canals, and cobbled streets, the two hit men fill their days living the lives of tourists. Ray, still haunted by the bloodshed in London, hates the place, while Ken, even as he keeps a fatherly eye on Ray’s often profanely funny exploits, finds his mind and soul being expanded by the beauty and serenity of the city. But the longer they stay waiting for Harry’s call, the more surreal their experience becomes, as they find themselves in weird encounters with locals, tourists, violent medieval art, a dwarf American actor shooting a European art film, Dutch prostitutes, and a potential romance for Ray in the form of Chloë (Clémence Poésy), who may have some dark secrets of her own. And when the call from Harry does finally come, Ken and Ray’s vacation becomes a life-and-death struggle of darkly comic proportions and surprisingly emotional consequences. – Focus Features

O2 Icon… oh dear

It would seem I’ve taken this icon thing much too far. When work starts creeping in its time to have a break.

Damn Yanks with their copy-cat ways!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Why is it that lately the Yanks are re-making popular British TV programmes? First it was ‘The Office’, then ‘The Apprentice’, and now ‘Life on Mars’! What’s so wrong with shipping ours over there like they do with their shit to us?

Its not even a Cortina!!!

What makes it worse is this time it’s the exact characters but recast as Americans, and it looks as though it’ll be the same story line too! Get your own ideas?

I don’t think Americans will relate to names like Gene Hunt and Sam Tyler. Nor will New York be a suitable replacement for the gritty 70′s streets of Manchester!

I can at least rest in the knowledge that it’ll not be half as good and will be totally slated. Remember you can buy the much better English version online here
