Heaven – Spike Jonze

‘Heaven’ was used in the acclaimed skate film Fully Flared directed by Spike Jonze and Ty Evans. The collaboration inspired the directors to take footage and re-edit a sequence of shots that shows the Lakai skateboarding team demonstrating their considerable skills as they navigate through and around various exploding obstacles. With ‘Heaven’ as the musical backdrop, the resulting marriage of sound to picture is quite extraordinary.

Firstly I’d like to stress that I was never a fan of Jade Goody, but I do think her early passing was unfair and must be terribly hard on her two children.
The reason behind me creating this image was purely for practice in shading with my Wacom.
Due to Jade’s unprecedented popularity among groups who only months earlier shunned her for being a racist; there has been an amazing amount of media coverage, and so plenty of choice reference material to hand. This, and only this, was the deciding factor for my choice of personality.

Twitter

I’ve decided to give Twitter a bash to see if it makes my life a bit more interesting. It probably wont but it takes up a few more minutes on an otherwise uneventful Friday…

More drawing practice with the Wacom, this time using a great thread at the Whitechapel forum where the challenge is to draw another user of the site from photos they upload.

This is user Zoetica. Cool framing of the photo caught my attention. Also some ace colour potential.

Not too happy with the jacket, but what you gonna do?

Colouring Exercise on Wacom Bamboo One

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

I occasionally peruse the comic illustration forum ‘Whitechapel’ to see what is going down in the comic world and check out the latest work by Mr Paul Sizer – an extremely talented artist – and a bunch of similarly skilled individuals.

One piece caught my eye – a hand drawn sketch by ‘Kimieye’ which had been inked by Mr Sizer and then coloured by himself and another artist named ‘Frequentcontributor’.

I love a challenge and while I’m not confident enough and time rich to get involved in the weekly ‘Remake/Remodel’ exercise they run on ‘Whitechapel’, I did fancy a shot at a good old fashioned colouring exercise.

This is the end result. While I’m not entirely happy with the rough outline and dodgy background, I am happy with the colouring so for now – mission accomplished.

New World Order

Do you want to live in an Orwellian State?

Do you want a microchip implanted on your body so the powers that be can see exactly what you are doing at any given moment?

The New World Order is based on nothing but world domination by the people behind the people we see as the powers of each nation. The decision makers.

Ongoing – ‘Fat Bear’ Project

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

This is a project I am working on with first time author Nick Fryer. Based on the soft toys belonging to his young son, the story is one of several being developed for children and adults to enjoy at bed time.

These are the characters I am developing for the illustrations in the book.

Evil Tree

OK it didn’t look quite like this when I took the picture but it certainly caught my attention!

Here’s the original, and I’m sure you’ll agree its creepy.
