Dear God! The Matrix is coming true!

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Anyone who has seen the animated prequel to ‘The Matrix’ (aptly named ‘Animatrix’) will know what I mean when I say that the writer of ‘The Second Renaissance – Part 1’ was seriously on the money if the following video is anything to go by! Scary is not the word as it seems too real to be possibly misconstrued as anything less than possible.

iPhone To Be Sold By Tesco Mobile In UK

Tesco Mobile Get iPhone

So we know the iPhone has been slumming it and selling itself on Walmart shelves in the US for a while now, but it’s retained a somewhat more dignified cachet over here in Europe. Until today, that is. Just "in time for Christmas," British retailer Tesco will make it possible for you to buy your socks, no-frills groceries, and shiny smartphone all in the same place. You’ll still be riding O2′s network, thanks to the Tesco Mobile service, but the department store chain is likely to price its contracts more aggressively, as it already has a £30 per month plan that includes unlimited calls, texts, and web surfing (chances are this wont be the same for iPhone).

It suddenly makes sense why O2 have been aggressively upgrading thier smartphone data network lately. They will of course be profiting from this announcement, if not also playing a leading role in brokering the deal in the first place with Apple.

Price/Jordan Out Of The Jungle

Price Leaves Show

Katie Price quit the celebrity jungle after being chosen for yet another bushtucker challenge. Rumoured to have been paid £350,000 for her 6 days, Jordan repeatedly mentioned (always on camera) that she was only competing again for ‘closure’ from her failed marriage to the far superior Peter Andre. Her official reason for leaving the jungle? Missing her kids. The real reason? Her plan to become popular with the media and general public again had blatantly failed after being publicaly voted to compete in every bush-tucker challenge.

I’m interested to see what she’ll do next, although it’ll probably be getting married to her cross-dressing cage-fighting boyfriend… just a normal family.

Man Thought To Be in Coma For 23 Years Wasn’t

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

An engineering student thought to be in a coma for 23 years was actually conscious the whole time, it has emerged.

Rom Houben was misdiagnosed as being in a vegetative state after a car crash left him totally paralysed.

For the whole time, he was trapped in his own body with no way of letting friends and family know he could hear every word they were saying.

The 46-year-old, who can now tap out computerised messages and read books on a device above his hospital bed, has revealed: “I screamed, but there was nothing to hear.

“All that time I literally dreamed of a better life. Frustration is too small a word to describe what I felt.

“I shall never forget the day when they discovered what was truly wrong with me – it was my second birth.

“I want to read, talk with my friends via the computer and enjoy life now people know I am not dead.”

His misdiagnosis was discovered by neurological expert Dr Steven Laureys, who fears there may be similar cases all over the world.

He looked at Mr Houben’s case again at the University of Liege, Belgium, using state-of-the-art imaging that showed the patient was aware of what was happening around him even though he had lost control of his body.

He told the Daily Telegraph: “In Germany alone each year some 100,000 people suffer from severe traumatic brain injury.

“About 20,000 are followed by a coma of three weeks or longer. Some of them die, others regain health.

“But an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 people a year, remain trapped in an intermediate stage: they go on living without ever come back again.”

Rom, a martial arts enthusiast who remains in constant care at a facility near Brussels, was repeatedly wrongly assessed in Zolder, Belgium, by doctors using technology available at the time.

They used the internationally accepted Glasgow Coma Scale to assess his eye, verbal and motor responses. But each time he was graded incorrectly.

End Of Days For IE6

Suggymoto.com not looking so fresh

Anyone still running Microsoft IE6 will soon start experiencing problems when viewing many popular sites; from Facebook to YouTube. All are now advising a browser update or face not being able to view their sites properly, or at all. Luckily anyone not wanting to move to IE6 successors can now choose from a wide variety of browser providers. Apple, Mozilla, Opera and of course Google are all now fighting for that coveted number one position, and who can blame them? In a world where Internet access is key for most business and home users, it is indeed big business.
For those among you reading this Blog, you may or may not know that suggymoto.com no longer supports IE6 either. Newer and more powerful browers offer many more possibilities for the home blogger/geek, and as a wordpress user I want my site to look as clean and fresh as possible. Check the image above to see if you are viewing suggymoto.com at it’s best. If what you see on your browser looks like the image then its probably time for that fated upgrade.
