Blackberry Pearl 9100

The new Blackberry Pearl has finally been seen in public and rumour has it that it’s 3G!
What isn’t different is the now normal OS 5.0 as seen on the Javelin 8900 and Bold 2. However what has been improved is a smooth action and near zero delay in opening Apps – courtesy of the responsive optical pad and 624MHz processor.
As usual with the Pearl range there are bound to be lovers and haters of the keyboard layout. For those haters there is another option – the affor-mentioned Bold 2. For those looking for a Nokia Classic-esque feel to a mid-range Smartphone, then this is your baby. Also (undoubtedly network dependent) is the choice of TWO keyboard layouts! (See below image).

Apple’s iPhone 4 Revealed

The fourth-generation iPhone prototype that leaked its way out into the world over the weekend has found its way to Gizmodo, and they’ve examined it exhaustively enough to prove that it’s the real thing. Not only does it show up in iTunes, Xcode, and System Profiler, but it has different product identifiers than the 3G or 3GS, and it’s packed with Apple-labeled components inside. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get it to boot out of recovery mode, but a number of new features and changes are evident just by looking at it. Obviously, it’s thinner than the 3GS, with smaller internal components and a larger battery inside the metal frame. There’s also a front-facing camera, a larger and better camera with a flash on the back, a higher-res display that’s slightly smaller than the current models, a second mic for noise cancellation, and that new back, which Gizmodo seems a bit confused about but is possibly glass or ceramic. It’s also three grams heavier than a 3GS, with a 16 percent larger battery and the same new MicroSIM slot used in the iPad.
It was also told the phone was found running iPhone OS 4.0 but that it was remotely killed before Gizmodo could actually see it, and that they can’t get it to boot because it requires a bespoke build of the OS.
Apple will be surely after this, although there is some speculation as to weather this is a viral campaign to muster a lot of interest in the product again after the much-hyped iPad. It’s probably working.

Damn You Photoshop!
Thursday, April 15th, 2010I’ve not done any artwork in a long time! I’m slightly ashamed of myself. However! I feel my lack of creativity has partly to do with Photoshop. Yes Photoshop, I blame you! I was close to completing a piece last week (you know the kind that has taken a WHOLE DAY) when Photoshop decided to crash. I left it for an hour to try and fix itself (I can hope!) but I inevitably had to close it. Of course I only then realised that Photoshop does not have an auto save feature. Cue me weeping into my cupped hands while dropping to my knees.
I’ve not gone back to it since, having totally lost interest. Maybe one day. Meanwhile here is my last save. It looked way cool… until it died.

Opera Mini On iPhone!

Wow! Apple finally relinquished its dominance as the only web browser on the iPhone today as the Opera App was approved and made available to download FREE worldwide.
What makes this even more amazing is that any information you request goes through Opera’s servers first to make your browsing experience as fast as possible – which in this case is faster than with Safari.
Down sides I’ve noticed so far are:
- No YouTube videos
- Web pages are not always formatted properly
- Opera’s Mobile Apps option has been left in but the iPhone is not supported
- Because all the information is directed via Norway (home of Opera) some secure sites will not allow access
- There is no in-between when zooming in on web pages. You are either zoomed in or zoomed out
Of course these problems are easily fixed and I’m sure there will be plenty of updates as Opera secure their place as No. 1 browser for the iPhone and iPad. In the meanwhile I’ll stick with Safari…

Remember this? If you’re not from the UK then probably not. Needless to say this was the advert catch phrase that sold me the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis in the US). My parents teased me with cryptic clues of what I was getting for Christmas for weeks in ’89. Their favourite was "a box of bits". My stupid young brain didn’t catch on to their referencing of the Mega Drive’s 16 Bit processing power!
