Seemingly confirming Apple’s basic iPhone product strategy for this week, T-Mobile Netherlands’ phone catalog is showing 16GB and 32GB iPhones for 2009 as well as a possible 8GB model.
A pair of tips show an entry known as “iPhone 2009″ in both black and white for the two identified capacities, hinting that Apple will no longer reserve a second colour option for its best model.
Obtained by iPhoneClub, the images also curiously show two different entries for iPhones that are difficult to identify. One simply lists as “iPhone 2009 (NTB)” while another is “iPhone 3G 8GB Black V2.” The former may just be a placeholder, but the second is less clear; the potential exists for it either to be a continuance of the iPhone 3G as-is after the new launch or else simply a minor, mid-cycle iPhone update that already exists in stores.
The 32GB instance has all been assumed to be in development due to the nature of flash memory technology but, if borne out by Apple’s WWDC keynote tomorrow, would represent the first capacity upgrade to the iPhone since the original iPhone was given a 16GB choice in early 2008.
Thanks to BlueRotKev for this one.

Apple may or may not be announcing a new iPhone model at Monday’s WWDC, but the evidence is definitely stacking up in favour of it, especially with Carphone Warehouse’s latest blunder. It would seem they have updated their POS systems a little early as shown by the very clear image to the left. Any uncertainty of a 32GB variation also seem to have been taken care of, as well as a colour choice on all memory sizes. Whether the iPhone32GbV3 is real or not will have to wait until the 8th June. It is possible that whoever entered the info was just hitting all the possibilities.
Either way, time seems to be going a little too slowly for my liking…

Apple’s new iPhone will reportedly have a massive memory range available (the normal 8GB & 16GB, plus the new 32GB) and from a trusted source have just been approved by the PCS Type Review Certification Board – the standards body responsible for certificating handsets for use with some carriers (AT&T for instance). If true, this would lend credence to the belief that Apple will be introducing at least two new models this summer at the WWDC. Because it seems unlikely that the company would be looking to wrap high-end hardware around ridiculously light storage or vice versa, this means the approved carriers around the world could be able to sell the lower ‘spec’ iPhones free on all tariffs. It also reinforces a precedent set by devices like the Nokia E71x that consumers can (and should) expect hot smart phone hardware for shockingly little cash. Here’s hoping…

There are two sides to this coin. On the one hand, the handful of pictures that have just popped over on UMPC Fever demo many of the features we’re expecting to see in new iPhone hardware this summer – magnetic compass, autofocus camera, video recording capability, and a battery percentage meter in the status bar. On the other hand, having a good feel for those rumoured features makes it that much easier to mock up ridiculously blurry shots of them in action. The compass seems a little overdone, but then again, it’s not necessarily out of place considering the direction Apple has taken its voice recorder app in 3.0, so we’re going to play the cautiously optimistic diplomat here and say these could very well be real.
It’s possible that we might be looking at two new variants of iPhone hardware here. Note the difference in styling between the phone on the right and the phone on the left? If we’re to believe what we’ve heard about the future of the line, these could be the first photos of what Apple has in store for WWDC. The model on the right might easily be that matte version heard about already… but that thing on the left? No idea, though it would be an insane move on a counterfeiter’s part to fake something so bizarre. What we mean is: it’s almost too weird to be fake.

Here is a tidy little roundup of all the iPhone rumours to date. The latest (pictured) is a supposed top-facing bezel frame for the "Apple iPhone 3Gen 2009." Besides being black unlike the chrome edge of the iPhone 3G, iLounge and others have noticed a repositioned ear speaker, tucked high against the top-edge that could be making way for a front-facing camera or additional sensor(s). iLounge also claims that there will be three new models (3G, enhanced 3G, and mainland China version lacking WiFi?) of iPhones with matte plastic bodies less prone to scratching. Importantly, countries will get the phone appropriate to their telco’s capabilities. iLounge says users won’t have to choose between a fast and slow iPhone, they’ll get what their carriers can support. Each will ship in a choice of two capacity options with 32GB being the top-end rumored. Oh, and iPhone 3.0 will also get into the Nike+ game without requiring an adapter (like the iPod touch). These rumors ride a wave of reports that inventories of the iPhone 3G are running low and component makers are now shipping parts for the next generation iPhone. So Steve Jobs or not, still expect the hardware to be announced at WWDC with possible July 17 launch.

A bona fide "iPhone 32GB" placeholder has appeared in the ‘Coming Soon’ section on T-Mobile Austria’s website. A similar slip at T-Mobile Germany was very accurate two years ago. I’m cautiously optimistic that all those rumors of a bigger, better iPhone are legitimate. We wont know for sure until the WWDC but June 8th isn’t too far off anyway.
Update: The powers that be have now removed the offending article on T-Mobile Austria.
Update 2: Looks like Vodafone Australia has sent out a notice that the 16GB iPhone has been deemed "End of Life" by Brightpoint, who supplies its iPhones… Beginning of the end?
